The .NET Passport service is currently unavailable at this Web site for one
of these reasons:

• The site may contain an error or be experiencing a problem that affects
the .NET Passport service.
• The site may not be an official .NET Passport-participating site.

You can:

• Return to this site later and try to sign in or register again.
• Sign in or register for a .NET Passport at another .NET Passport
participating site. .NET Passport Site Directory

I'm probably upsetting someone here, but - as far as I can see, the only
things "passport" is used for is accessing Hotmail and MSMoney. Since I
tried and failed to get Money to do anything useful (that a 1985 DOS prog of
350Kb still does with consummate ease in XP), and, I don't have a Hotmail
account - I just ditched it completely, thus avoiding all associated the
security issues.
I've set IE to open with "About Blank", from where I can type URL's direct
to sites that I actually want, full size no extraneous MS screen clutter.

I've been using this pc with XP for 3 years now, with no "passport" problem.
On the few occasions when my daughters wish to access their hotmail accounts
(when visiting me, no longer at home) - passport works fine for them, they
just have to go to MSN.

I have Automatic Updates set, and can freely access MS home page without
need for passport log-in.

Lateral thinking - Using MSN as your home page is the cause of your problem.
Avoid it by using another - "About Blank" (option from IE/Tools/General -
"Use Blank" button) gives you far greater flexibility and no hassle.

Some of us do work in areas of the internet where Passport is essential,
such as MSDN and other secure sites that do use Passport. Your mileage
simply varies.

I read the original posted problem as being "when he tries to get back to
home page he has to re-logon NET passport"
If he NEEDS permanent net passport access, he's got a valid prob - if all he
needs is occasional access to MSN, I've suggested how to avoid it. Works for
me, this last several years. Occasional work using daughter's laptop (which
has MSN homepage/logon) is a pain, in comparison.

I accept yopur point unreservedly - if semi-permanent access to MSDN is
essential.
