Software installation problem

Here lately I have been having problems installing software. When the
software begins to actually install it will stop in the middle and sometimes
at the beginning of the install. I wait and it never completes. It now does
it on almost all installations What could be my problem? I have a 60gb hard
drive with 41 gb free
 
What could your problem be ?

Could be about 1000 different things.

Bad hard drive, faulty RAM chip, incorrect BIOS setting,
bad driver, corrupted system file, swap-file problem,
services problem, virus problem, spyware problem,
corruption problem, conflicting software, ...
