Installing Software Using Windows XP

I am trying to install video software on my laptop. The software states to
disable all programs that are running before beginning installation. How do
I do this? I tried installing the software without disabling the programs
(including windows) and it caused problems. I had to revert my hard drive
back to a previous time period. If anyone can tell me how to do this it
would be greatly appreciated.

You can't install anything if you disable Windows.
What the warning means is don't have any other programs, like word processor, internet explorer,
etc., running.
If you have Norton, or McAfee on your computer, it is a good idea to temporary disable them as they
see installations as bad and can stop the operation. (Disable Norton or McAfee by right mouse
clicking on their icon in the System Tray).

Thanks for explaining this. I wasn't sure what they were talking about.
This helps tremenously.
