Hello...my outlook program has been infected by the
W32.SoBig.F@mm virus....i have norton antivirus 2002
which originally didn't catch the virus and couldn't
quarantine it.....i made the mistake of opening an
attachment and needless to say i was swamp with e-
mails.....so i went on the Symantec site and downloaded
the removal tool and removed the virus....but it is still
sending emails to my inbox.....i don't open them and
delete them....how do i configure my e-mail server to
block or remove e-mail that contains file attachments
that are commonly used to spread viruses, such
as .vbs,.bat,.exe,.pif,.scr..........any assistance on
this one is greatly appreciated....thanks....Rolf

Sobig.F worm has it own SMTP engine and doesn't need Microsoft Outlook to
propogate. If you are receiving a large amount of messages from other
people (including your self), you need to understand that this program
forges the from address. The only true measure to know where it came from
is to look at the Internet Header and look at the IP address on the first
received from line.

Since you didn't specify what type of mail server you use, it will be
difficult for use mere mortals that support the Microsoft Outlook client to
tell you how to configure said server. However if you are interested is the
enhanced e-mail security updates offered by Microsoft for Outlook 98/2000,
then you should read http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup.htm before
apply the patches to block specific file types.
