You have new unopened items but no new items

Hi,

A few of my users have the envelope icon appearing but when they check
their inboxes, there are no new messages. Just to make sure, I
checked other folders to see if they had new messages.

However, I have noticed that when our anti-virus picks up emails with
virus attachments, it deletes them before the user gets them. But
when I read the message that the administrator gets from the
anti-virus software it says...

Location of the infected item: UserName/Inbox
Sender of the infected item: Unknown Sender
Subject of the message: Re: Protected Mail Request
The attachment "document.zip" was marked for Deletion for the
following reasons:
Virus W32.Netsky.P@mm was found.
Virus W32.Netsky.P@mm was found in details.txt.pif.

So does the infected message reach the inbox of the user then the
anti-virus deletes it. Would that cause the icon to appear? If so,
is there a way around that?

Thanks for any help,
b

The new mail notification feature functions independent of your anti-virus
add-in. So once Outlook registers the new mail notify and displays the
system tray envelope it has no idea that your a/v software is taking action.
IF the a/v software was programmed to mark the message as read, then you
could possibly clean up this type of problem, but most a/v applications will
not "open" a message in the traditional sense.

The best workaround I could suggest would be to manually mark another piece
of e-mail as unread, then mark it as read forcing Outlook to clear the new
mail notification status.

Hope that helps!!

Thank you!
