SMTP server no longer working?

Hey all...
been sending emails using my cable co's smtp settings for like 10 years.
just last week updated from OE to Outlook 2007...and all was well this this
am.

now, when I try to send an email Outlook07 reports --

Task 'mail.kkti.com - Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot
connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive
this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider
(ISP).'

I've just checked my account settings, and the incoming mail server IS
correct, and the outgoing IS correct too, set to my ISP's string. The TEST
these settings button however gets me the exact same error...

Problem is, I don't know how to correct this? help here guys?

Oh..it's the right one, ie my ISP string is perfect. I can ping the smtp
server and I can receive emails FROM that server after having just called my
ISP and getting them to send me a test email...

Yet, I still can not send thru that smtp server...and this is caused by
"something" else my brain tells me that is interfering with Outlook and port
25.

Help here guys?

Hmm....a reboot didn't help. The call to my ISP didn't help...but this did
work.

I changed the DEFAULT account (I have 6 on the app) to send emails and then
used the string "127.0.0.1" as the conn string to the outgoing mail server.

Sent an email from this alternate account, and it worked! Cool!

Went back then in Account Settings, choose my desired DEFAULT account,
changed that outgoing string to the same "127.0.0.1" and then tested -- YEA,
Outlook will now send emails.

While this issue is resolved for me, and yes, I've made notes here on how to
fix same, the "why this happened" issue still evades me....sigh....

Can someone help in that area pls?

that would indicate you are using an AV program to scan outgoing email -
that's why it didn't work normally....

Looks like you have Antivirus software interacting with your email, which
can often cause problems. 127.0.0.1 is the loopback IP address that points
back to your computer (so 127.0.0.1 is always the device you're on. In the
future any time you have trouble either sending or receiving, disable your
antivirus and try again--9 times out of 10 that's where the issue lies,
though with whatever AV you're using you'd also have to go back in and
change your server information to your ISP's information instead of
127.0.0.1 if you were to do so.
