Slow internet with Windows Vista

I am getting very frustrated with slow downloads, even a jpg file takes
forever to open when I visit a blog site. I cannot listen to Youtube videos
anymore, they download in small pieces and sometimes just stop. I have
three browsers, IE, Firefox and Safari, all three work far too slowly and I
have highspeed wireless internet. Things weren't too bad in the beginnning
a few months ago but gradually it has become impossible. I bought a new HP
laptop with Windows Vista last February. I am ready to throw it agains the
wall now. Downloading email is the same, it just hangs up.

Is there anything I can do to get normal speed on this laptop? Most
problems I am having are with internet.

You should install CurrPorts (free) to see what else is running like
malware that's running that could be accessing the Internet, taking your
bandwidth speed and slowing down anything that's accessing the Internet.

Of course for your situation, it might take sometime to download. :)

Also, can you take the computer to a friend's house and do a download
there that uses a cable connection that is not wireless to see if the
download speed improves?

It's not your browsers.

Two approaches:
Reboot your router -- turn off, wait a minute, turn back on. I need to
do this occasionally with my Verizon wireless router.

Try attaching your laptop to your router with a wired connection, if
possible, to see if your speed improves.
