slow internet speed?

Brad

I have DSL connection but my internet speed is very slow.
So slow that many websites I try to access time-out. Are
there any adjustments I can make on my own or is the
problem bigger than that?

Has it always been slow?
Clear your cache, in IE, tools, Internet Options, delete files.

Hi, Brad!
You might want to try the free Connection Booster from
http://trackzapper.com It worked for my dial-up connection.

Check out the OUR TOOLS|"tweak tips" at http://dslreports.com
Pay special attention to the RCV window setting in XP

Hi Brad

Don`t know if this might help you, I had a slow connection, complained on
numerous occasions and
eventually was asked..........

We need some information about the connection speeds.
Would you go to www.adslguide.org.uk and use the speed test on the site
to test your connection. It would be helpful if you could do this for a
couple of days and at different times of day.
If you then send this information to us, or call the helpline, number
below, we will try to resolve your problem

Was then referred to the forum below.

In the continuing hunt for why there are low speeds for some people and not
others an area that has not being mentioned much and in some cases in the
past, has made a difference is tweaking the MTU value in the computers
TCP/IP stack.

http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks will tell you want your current MTU value
is, if you have a value of 1500 and are getting slow speeds generally then
it may be worth changing the MTU to 1458

Now how to change your MTU value a good tool is
http://www.dslreports.com/front/drtcp.html
Download the latest copy - i.e. top one.

REMEMBER - BEST TO REBOOT AFTER CHANGING VALUES TO ENSURE THEY ARE USED

Select the adaptor and then change the MAXMTU value, if the USB modem isnt
available change any network cards that are listed and reboot, the USB modem
may well pick up the change.

BIG NOTE Before changing anything make a note of the original values, then
if things dont work out you can roll back to previous settings.

If it works for people let us know, if it doesnt let us know. If it does
appear to work then I'll mention it to all the other ISP users. For now as
BTO has the largest userbase it presents the best place to try this out.

Regards

Harry
