Slow Downloads

I have recently upgraded to a 6.0 mpbs dsl connection, I am getting over 5
for all thing except downloading files from the internet. I am getting dial
up speeds of about 40kb. Once in a great while it speeds up. I have a home
network. Same slow speed when i connect direct. Need suggestions to speed up
downloads. Thanks. Frank

Much depends on where you download.. some servers are really slow..

I agree with Mike. The server determines what speed download you get. You

A download speed of 40kb is not the same as a download speed of 40kB.
40 kB is approximately equal to a 400 kb download speed. (A lower case
"b" refers to bits, an upper case "B" refers to Bytes, which are eight
bits, plus some overhead, approaching 10 bits-per-byte.)

Admittedly, that still isn't very good download speed with a 6 mbps
connection.
