Shared printer problem.

I encountered an very strange problem this past week.
I was attempting to connect a pc to a shared HP 6P printer. The printer was
shared on a desktop running XP and the desktop attempting to connect to it
was also running XP.

WHile attempting to connect I got an error message that said that it could
not load the HP 6p drivers. Here is what is really strange. I returned to
the desktop that was sharing the printer. I attempted to print a test page
and got an error mesage that it could not print and that there was a problem
with the printer drivers. On an other machne that was networked but not
involved in sharing its printer I also got the same error message. I used
system restore to get back to a point where the machines could print. I shut
down the one computer not sharing its printer. I attempted to connect again
to the shared printer and the same result happened. I then powered on the
second machine and got the pritner error message about bad drivers. I again
used system restore. THis time I attmepted to connect the desktop that was
sharing the HP 6p to an HP deskjet on the other machine. I was able to
connect successfully and print from that printer. But it again screwed up
the ability to print from the 6P. The two machines in the one office could
share and connect to each others printers but the ontehr computer in another
office could not.

If this explanation seems compilicated its because it is a complicated
problem, one that I have never come across before. Has anyone ever seen
anything like it before and have you any suggestions about what to do. I am
considering reisntalling the OS on the one machine so that if the drivers are
corrupt they can be reinstalled. I am also thinking of extracting the
drivers from an XP cd-rom and loading them on the machine.
