shared documents can't be shared

My wife and I share a computer. I am 'administrator', she is 'limited'. I
put all our photos in 'Shared Documents' so that she too can access them.
However, when she attempts to click on the photos folder in 'Shared
Documents' access is denied.

I have clicked into 'Properties' on the photos folder and found that it's
read only. I'm not sure I made it read only. Perhaps it's read only because
it's in 'Shared Documents'. I cannot seem to change it from a read only
folder.

Any ideas? My wife needs to be able to get into this folder.

Thanks very much in advance. I'm sure it's probably something obvious!

Hi James,

"Read only" on a folder is meaningless. It is not the cause of the problem,
and it has no effect on the system. That attribute is ignored by the system.
Your issue is with permissions. Your wife's account does not have sufficient
privileges to access that folder. You need to access the security settings
of the folder properties by right-clicking it and selecting properties. Then
add her account for at least read privileges (read and write if you wish her
to be able to make changes).

To access the security tab, you must have simple file sharing turned off in
folder options/view tab/advanced options in WinXP Pro (it's on the bottom of
the list). In WinXP Home, you must restart in Safe mode and logon as
administrator.
