Any new hardware additions lately? Scanners, cameras, jump drives, etc?
Did you try disabling any startup programs and non essential services?
Especially anti virus or firewall
The Microsoft easy way out answer was check bios level, cant hurt to do
that.

I have recieved this error before though.
I recently added a new video card.
I don't think that the antivirus or firewall could be doing this.
How do you check BIOS level and what is that?

I would disable "error reporting service" in services if its being that much
of a headache. But I wouldn't ignore it either. Scan for viruses and
malware. Update from windows update. Look in the event log for more
specifics(time should coincide with the time of the error). Post back here
what you find.

How do you turn off the error reporting service?

bios=basic input output system-the bios is what makes the system run
when you first power on. low level stuff.
The error is very similar to the one on the MS site tho. Does the
error message happen in safe mode?

Start > Control panel (classic view, all icons visible) > Administrative
tools > Services. Scroll down to Error reporting service, Open and set to
"disable" and then click the "stop" button.

Turning off reporting of errors is silly advice.

The error is pointing to a driver problem. There are a number of reports
containing exactly the same parameters with unfortunately no reports of
solutions.

Have you changed or added any hardware e.g. dvd drive about the time
the problems started?

Look in Device Manager for yellow question marks and, if found, post
details including Device Error Code. Right click on the My Computer
icon on your Desktop and select Properties, Hardware, Device Manager.

What is the make and model of your motherboard?

Download, install and run Bellarc Advisor
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

Post the detail shown under Main Circuit Board.

Then why did you suggest it in the first place?

Because, that's the first thing I would have tried, to eliminate the
aggravating conditions making a more suitable environment in which to get to
the heart of the problem. But, after having read more about the Error
Reporting Service I realized that disabling the service is not the best
advice considering the implied magnitude of the problem, ie, ( The system
has recovered from a serious error). In which case one might well want to
report the problem to Microsoft even though the report is not available to
diagnosticians and may leak sensitive data. See,
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...tson5/html/wce50grferrorreportingsecurity.asp

Its good that you saw similarities in this person's problem with other
reported problems and offered your input. MSVP's have far too much
responsibility here and I would not want to be in their shoes for a minute
(well, maybe for just a minute). But you don't have to be an MSVP to offer
advice in these forums and no one will be right 100% of the time, not even
MSVPs. I hope this answers your question.

Windows CE is not Windows XP!

"In which case one might well want to report the problem to Microsoft even
though the report is not available to diagnosticians and may leak sensitive
data." The majority of subscribers to these newsgroups are home users. Even
so error reports going to Microsoft would not generally include sensitive
data. They contain technical system data and are used to resolve bugs in
systems. How much sensitive data do you really think gets to Microsoft?

MSVP's are volunteers, who because of their knowledge and experience, tend
to take a lead. So who cares if those seeking help benefit? I find plenty of
questions to answer and frequently breathe a sigh of relief when an MSVP
joins the thread. Treat them for what they are. Another computer user
prepared to freely offer help and advice.

Well that links about Office XP, which is an application not an operating
system. Have you ever looked inside a dmp file?

The link I provided refers to IE v5 and above and the XP platform as well as
office xp. I've used windbg to access a dump file.
This dialog is going nowhere in a hurry and I have better things to do.

Can you tell me , how did you get this problem sorted out. I am getting the
same error 102 and id1003.

It went nowhere!

Please look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for Warning
and Error Reports over the last 2 days use and post copies here.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Hi Gerry, I see you are in stourport. I am in Pershore 01386553685 just up
the road. It started a week ago when i installed a usb2 card. It carried on
after the card was removed and just got worse. I ended up doing a clean
install but it started again while I was still loading my software on the
clean drive. I think it might be Norton thats causing the problem. I have had
problems loading norton
again and downloading the updates.
I have just done a diagnose start up and gone to the last setting that
worked ok, so we will see how that goes.
I will do what you recommend and let you know. Thanks for your help. I have
been trying to sort this for a few days now and it would be great to spend
some time with the family. Cheers.
