Whenever Im using a windows program, specifically AIM and
IE and I use a scroll down menu, the programs freeze,
fail...and do not respond...what is the problem and how do
I go about fixing it?

You could have a corrupted file within Windows. Running Scannow may be able
to repair it.

Michael Solomon's instructions for running SCANNOW;

"The following assumes you have an actual XP CD as opposed to a restore CD
or restore partition supplied by your PC manufacturer.

Go to Start, type sfc /scannow in the run box and press enter. Note, there
is a space between sfc and the forward slash. You will be asked for your XP
CD. Be aware, upon inserting the CD the XP setup screen may appear, this is
not a part of sfc /scannow, rather it is being invoked by autorun. Simply
minimize the screen and allow sfc to continue."

A possibility is that it is a result of the mouse driver and the video
driver arguing over which controls the pointer. It is easy to check on
- Control Panel - Display - Settings, Click Advanced, and on the
Troubleshoot page reduce the acceleration slider one notch or two. If
one does it, there is negligible loss of performance: if two are needed
look for updated video drivers from the maker's site.
