Screensaver stopped working

Have an XPPro process box running only;

spam filtering software
AVG 7

Also has a MS Bluetooth KB/Mouse combo

....where the standard screensaver settings to the "blank" screensaver
after five minutes, then power off the monitor at 30 minutes had been
working without issue for about a year, then, a couple of weeks ago, all
screensaver functions stopped working, neither the software nor monitor
power work.

Can't find anything new in task manager, and resetting the screen
properties doesn't work... anyone have any ideas?

update... looks like it might be related to the bt kb/mouse... only
thing that's changed there recently was the upgrade to it/p 6.x
