Screensaver starts then stops

I am using XP home edition. When I installed one of the MS updates about 2-3
months ago something happened to my screensaver.

It correctly starts at the specified time. Then about 5-10 minutes later it
goes to the login screen and stays there permanently. That defeats the
purpose of the screensaver.

I have tried resetting the screensaver to different properties and it still
does the same thing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tom,
I understand that you've tried to change the properties of
*this* screensaver, however, does this effect still happen when you
change to a different screensaver?

You need to untick the box that says "On resume, password protect" In the
Screen Saver tab of the display properties.

This will stop it just sitting there.

However, your problem is probably due to the sensitivity of your mouse /
touchpad, or another piece of software running which is stopping the
screensaver in the first place.

Try reducing the sensitivity of your mouse / touchpad and see if you still
get the same problem.
