If you check the HP web site
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...us&dlc=en&submit.y=5&submit.x=7&lang=en&cc=us
You will find hat your scanner is not supported under Windows Vista.
This is HPs decision.
If you wish to use an HP scanner under Windows Vista then you will need to
buy a newer model.

Thanks for reply, very accurate the link, now i can understand why Vista
bothers too many people

The fact that HP is leaving to to blow in the wind does NOT bother you?
Don't you get it. They have "abandoned" you as a customer and they don't
give a damn about you. Yet you blame Vista because HP has made the decision
to leave you flapping in the breeze.

How strange human nature is!

Yes, since Fiorina Former HP Ceo was fired, HP is trying to recover lost
sheeps, but now with this changing attitude, will never be the same than
before, others:Canon Brother,Epson Lexmark etc etc goes crazy to catch angry
people

A quick comment. I have a Canon scanner that I couldn't use until recently.
All of a sudden Canon had "updated" drivers for Vista.

Get this. They changed *one* file by ***one*** byte to enable a person to
use the Windows XP drivers in Vista.

All it took was for someone to analyze the old code.

I got a Microtek scanner years back, it has Vista and Vista 64 bit
drivers.

Epson does NOT go crazy to catch angry people, they abandoned me when I
tried to run Windows 2000 and refused to write a driver for a scanner
that had cost $1,200 three years previously! I bought the Microtek for
$80 and have never regretted it.

When XP 64 came out, I "decorated" the .inf file for my Microtek
scanner, took only a couple of minutes and it worked.

Since then, Microtek has released drivers for XP 64, Vista and Vista 64
for my rather elderly scanner.

Some people want your business, some don't.

Kudos to Logitech, their SetPoint software has a conflict with Quicken
in Vista 64, I was told they were re-writing the driver to fix it AND
I'd be notified when it was ready.

There ARE class acts in this business and I think it helps to make sure
people know about them!

Shameless advertising plugs follow:

BUY MICROTEK
BUY LOGITECH

HP has the same message for my 5470c scanner, BUT the XP drivers and software
installed just fine and the scanner is also working just fine with the HP
software. I haven't tried Vista Ultimate's Windows Fax and Scan however.

sheeps

I'm not sure about that -- I doubt she would have stood for the present
mess. It was she who made HP backtrack and issue 7 CD sets to reinstall
XP and applications instead of taking a massive slice of the hard drive
in a hidden partition without telling the customer they were not going
to be able to use all of their purchased GB's.

Have you tried installing the XP software from new using Run as
Administrator and Compatibility mode?

This has worked for a number of people.

If you try this make sure you remove all traces of any installed HP
software relating to the device and that you do not have the cable
connected to the PC if it is USB.

Ah I see CalBear has done this for the 5470. If necessary try the 5470
software for your scanner.

I have read all the replys re scanners & Vista. But no one mentions 32 bit OS
with HP that is the basic package in most retail stores. I have a Lexmark
P6250 and it WILL NOT WORK with my Vista. Their web says it will but NO it
does no. I have seen no mfgs listing scanners for 32 bit. What now? Please he

Have you tried the driver on this website?

I'm new to Vista. Trying to install Vista driver & software for Canoscan
5000F (which as you noted, is now avail on the Canon website even though
Vista Upgrade Advisor said earlier it was not - good news). But I'm stuck.
After I download the new driver, Vista tries to locate it automatically -
looking mostly (only?) in Windows Update. It never lets me point it to the
right location - and it fails to find it. Am I missing a trick here? Sounds
like you know your stuff, so I thought I'd throw mself on your mercy...

Thanks

Go back to the Canon web site. Find where you download the drivers and look
for install instructions. They are usually there. In my case I had to
extract the install files to my C: drive. I could then install from there
using their instructions for my particular scanner.
