Scanner not recognized

I recently moved my computer so had to unplug
everything. When I set it all back up the scanner does
not work. It is a HP Scanjet 5100C that is connected to
the parallell port with the printer connected to the
scanner. The printer works fine but scanner does not. I
am using Windows XP.

XP does not support piggybacking parallel port units in this manner.
Connect either the printer or the scanner to the USB port.

Did it ever work under XP? I see two problems here:

1. XP doesn't really like parrallel port scanners.
2. XP hates pass through parrallel devices.

It had worked fine until I moved it.
