My Win XP no longer recognizes my HP OfficeJet Scanner

The printer mode of the OfficeJet works well but when I try to scan the
computer error states the scanner is not connected. The scanner mode works
well with my XP laptop so the probem is not the HP. The laptop is not
connected to a printer. Previous to adding a 2nd printer (Epson
PictureMate) the scanner funtion worked well.
Please help

Yes. I removed & re-installed the HP scanner driver. Control panel -
scanner - says the device is working properly. Control Panel/ Scanner
properties says the item is not available When I try to scan it reads
cannot connect to PC Reconnecting the LPT cable doesn't help. Now what?

Yes I checked & HP has no updated drivers. I could try un-installing the
OfficeJet printer but I don't know how to do that. Any other suggestions?

Did you try the OfficeJet trouble shooting wizard on the HP web site? It
goes through and asks to do something, and you answer what happened and it
takes you on to the next step and you continue until hopefully the problem
is resolved.

The OfficeJet trouble shooting at the HP.com web site figured it out. For
some reason my HP Program file was gone. When it was re-installed
everything worked ok. Your suggestion was great. Thanks again.
