Scanner & Camera Wizard no longer detects camera

Ken

The scanner and camera wizard previously autoplayed when I connected the
camera through the USB port. Then ...

One day I was listening to a CD through MicroSoft Media Player 11 (running
Windows XP SP3) and I plugged in a camera to the USB port. I noticed that
Media Player detected the camera and added it as a sync device -- the scanner
and camera wizard did not autoplay.

I stopped the CD and exited Media Player, then stopped the USB device and
disconnected the camera. Then I reconnected the camera (it is detected as a
USB device and shows up with a drive letter) but the scanner and camera
wizard still does not autoplay.

Can anyone please help with this issue?

I would look at a few of the autoplay settings in the Registry. For example,
to use all drive types:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:0x000000FF

It would be difficult to guess what settings your particular system is
seeing, but looking around here might help you see the change.

Thanks Mark,

The scanner and camera wizard autoplays for my scanner and other cameras so
I'm thinking it has to do with some settings for this specific camera. I
checked this entry:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:0x00000091 (145)

It is set to HEX 91. For this same issue on other discussion boards they
suggest that it should be set to HEX 91. Will setting it to FF mean that
I'll be able to select from all devices everytime I launch the scanner and
camera wizard?

It is an Olympus FE210 so I searched the registry for this model, and found:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}\##?#USBSTOR#Disk&Ven_OLYMPUS&Prod_FE210#X775&Rev_1.00#X61047734#{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\Vid_07b4&Pid_0109\X61047734

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR\Disk&Ven_OLYMPUS&Prod_FE210/X775&Rev_1.00\X61047734

I'm wondering if I delete these three, then plug in the camera again will it
reconfigure it?

I would use the regedit menu to 'export' a ?.reg file of these keys. You
simply run the .reg file again to replace them as needed.

Hey, Hey! Success!

I exported the three keys to .reg files, deleted the keys from the registry,
then rebooted. I plugged in the camera and it reinstalled, then the autoplay
dialog started and I could again select the wizard.

Many Thanks for your help.
