Scanner and Camera Wizard does not detect camera

When I plug my Canon S50 in via USB I hear a beep and see the device
correctly identified in Device Manager, but Scanner and Camera Wizard does
not detect the camera. Neither does the Canon app (ZoomBrowserEX). This
used to work.

I can hook the camera to another computer and it detects correctly, so the
camera is working.

Any ideas?

I don't have real-player installed. Has anyone else seen other apps that
interfere?

I still haven't solved this problem, despite deleting and reinstalling the
USB drivers and doing an upgrade install of XP SP2. Any other ideas?

is the Windows Image Acquisition service running?

I've tried it with WIA running as well as disabled (in fact I'd like to know
how to remove WIA from the system, as Uninstall doesn't do the trick.)
