Scanjet 4300C on USB under Windows XP Home

Control Panel Status is Unavailable, I don't think this model is compatible
with Home edition, what can I do?

Buy a new scanner?.. the 4300C is old, and no longer fully supported by HP..
 
Any other ideas, I've just spent £570 buying a new HP desktop with XP home I
had no idea a HP scanjet wouldn't run on a HP pc.........why is this model
supported with XP Pro but not Home?
