Hi,

the start of the hp scan utility "PrecisionScan LTX" takes about 3 min.

while the CPU works with 100%. What's wrong?

The Windows scan wizzard works fine.

Configuration:
IntelD925XBC2
HP Scanjet 4300c
Connected via USB

all Windows XP Service Packs installed
HP Driver and PrecisionScan LTX installed from HP Website
(sj657en.exe = PrecisionScan LTX 1.11)

the german support has a solution:
They say that no links to network or floppy drive folders should be in
the startmenu. I hadn't such but
I had a link in my Startmenu to my "My Documents"-Folder.

I removed it, and the scanner-software works fine.

Hi

Just as above, I finally found the solution to this extremely commo
problem with my ScanJet 4300C (that is, PrecisionScan LTX v. 1.
hanging on start under Windows XP/2000). The key is HP's document

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&product=57956&dlc=en&des...=&docname=bps0515

My problem was having a link to My Computer in my Start menu. As th
software scans through the entire Start menu each time it runs
looking for compatible programs to scan to, it was trying to loo
through my entire computer (both hard drives and 4 network drives).

I simply removed the My Computer link from my Start menu an
PrecisionScan LTX began working correctly. You may need to remov
other links, but any links in your Start menu that connect directl
to My Computer, a hard drive, or a network location will probabl
cause the same problem.

I hope that helps

I'm trying to solve a similar problem for my neighbor who has a 4300
attached to his new Windows XP computer. Windows XP seems t
recognize the scanner with no problems but the scanner softwar
reports a "failure to communicate with scanner" error.
There's no problem with anything hanging, the error pops u
immediately when starting the scanner software

I guess I'll try this fix and see what happens

I had something very similar with my Canon camera - in end I reinstalled
XP.
