Can't get PrecisionScan LTX 1.2 and HP ScanJet 2100c to work withWindows XP SP2

I have a HP ScanJet 2100c and was using the PrecisionScan LTX software
version 1.2 that came with it. Then I installed Windows XP SP2 and
PrecisionScan no longer works and the scanner lamp always stays on.

If I try and run PrecisionScan a message stating "Sorry scanner could
not be initialized. (Scanner not found.) is displayed.

I have tried deleting the C:\windows\twain_32 directory and then
re-installing the PrecisionScan LTX software but that didn't fix the
problem. I even did a fresh install of Windows XP with SP2 slipstreamed
onto the install CD and then installing PrecisionScan, but that didn't work.

The built in "Scanners and Cameras" feature of Windows XP is able to
access and use the scanner just fine, so I know the scanner is still
working.

How can I get PrecisionScan to work, or at least make the scanner lamp
turn off when not in use like it used to with SP1. (I don't want to
have to keep unplugging it whenever I'm not using it)
