Saving files in jpg's is not possible.

I have been trying to save photos that I know are in jpg formt because I
uploaded them but when I look for them in my hard drive they are beign
coverted to jpeg. which are not the same. if I upload pictures in jpg I
should be able to download them in the same format.

When I right click and do 'save as I get to format options 'bitmap' and
'jpeg'.

Any ideas why this is happening.

Cache, offline files are cleared. tried the registry changes suggested by
microsoft, and also tried removing damaged or unkown file objects.

Clear the Temporary Internet Files. In IE>Tools>Internet Options>
Delete Files button. And check the box to Delete Offline content.

The usual fix is to clear your cache.
IE-Tools-Internet Options-Delete Files (in the TIF section)

That seems to work about 98% of the time but if it doesn't, close IE
and reopen and do it again. Also it has been reported that clear
cookies helps, but ensure you save any that you need.

If the above fails, then try here:

I already tried that, I think goes deeper than that, must something in the
registry I can not locate. Now, this happens when saving pictures of certain
photo databases.

Open the Registry (go to Start | Run and type regedit) and navigate to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg <--- note the . before jpg
Make sure Default is "jpegfile" and Content Type is "image/jpeg"

OK, tried that and still same, but I figured a way around, just click "save
target as" instead "save picture as...", also I noticed this happens to me
only when picture is inserted in php page, but not when is just opened alone
in the browser.

hope was clear enough.

THanks

You could also use Save Picture As... provided you typed your own
extension.

BTW I don't think you're right saying that .jpeg is not the same as .jpg.
They seem to be two different extensions for the same file type.
I suspect the only reason that you are getting shown .jpeg instead
of .jpg is that its file type is called jpegfile.[1] If you created
a new file type called jpgfile which was associated only with the
extension .jpg perhaps you would be offered it as a choice too.

In NTx it is easy to see the basis of these ideas at the command line:

assoc | find /i "jp" ..jfif=pjpegfile
..jpe=jpegfile
..jpeg=jpegfile
..jpg=jpegfile

ftype | find /i "jp"
jpegfile=rundll32.exe D:\WINDOWS\System32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1
pjpegfile=rundll32.exe D:\WINDOWS\System32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1
</example>

[1] I was going to suggest that the reason .jpeg instead of .jpg is the
suggested extension is that .jpeg precedes .jpg alphabetically.
However, that idea doesn't account for the fact that .jpe is never
the suggested extension, although it precedes both .jpeg and .jpg
alphabetically.

hope was clear enough.

THanks
