Samsung says jammed -- NOT jammed!

Help from anyone qould be appreciated. I have a Samsung ML-1710
printer running on Windows XP. It continues telling me there is a
paper jam when even a flashlight does not reveal any such jam. I have
tried everything. It *is* possible it overheated while printing a 375
page manuscript; could that be the cause? I have installed a Samsung
printer monitor which reports only this problem.

Thanks. Especially appreciated would be responses email to me at
(e-mail address removed).

It is extremely unlikely that the printer would overheat and have this problem
afterwards, most lasers have built in protection to prevent overheating.
Does the error occur at power on or only when you try to print?
I am not familiar with vthis model but it has likely 3 or 4 sensors. A few only
have 2.
One immediately above the paper tray (not all lasers), one in the registration
area (where the toner cartrdige sits), one under the fuser and maybe one at the
output rollers at the back of the printer.
Any one of these can cause a false paper jam. You need to find each in turn and
check there isn't a scrap of paper stuck near it or that it isn't stuck in the
operated position. Generally the sensors are small plastic levers operated by
the paper and which in turn interrupt an optical sensor. These levers are
sometimes gravity operated and sometimes spring loaded.

Sounds like it may be a sensor that either failed or was pushed out of
proper position and is therefore misreading the state of the sensor.

IF you can find those sensors a poke or two with a stiff artist's paint brush may
fix the problem. It did for me on HP IIP which I was given and that worked for 8
more years.
