HP LJ3 paper jam

I posted this some time ago with no success. Perhaps there are now some

My HP Laserjet 3 shows a paper jam error when I try to print something. No
sign of a paper jam - I examined it carefully. I checked the manual and on
page 7 - 14 it mentions a plastic counterweight. It is vertical, as it is
supposed to be. I cleaned the printer and blew out any dust.

I'm out of ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

TIA

Usually it's the pickup roller that has gotten slick, and won't pick up paper any longer reliably.

Remove the tray, and clean the wide rubber roller that picks up the paper from the tray. Use a strong solvent based cleaner to remove the crud built up on the roller, and try to make it feel rough again.

That would be a start....
