I can't start up Windows XP in safe mode. The XP help says to click
start>shut down but shuch an option is not available! I have also tried to
start up with the F8 key activated - that also does not help! Any ideas? Help
would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried booting with a non-system floppy in A:? That should halt the
computer at the right point at which to see if F8 will work after all.
