Rules

I currently have a rule that puts all my Spam into a folder. I do not delete
it automatically because it catches some good mail sometimes. So I have to
look at it before i just delete it. My rule will put into folder and mark as
read. But it still puts the little "envelope" in the toolbar to show new
mail. I do not want that for this rule. Is there anyway in the rules to
make that new mail notification not come up?? It does not come up for stuff
in deleted folder or Junk folder so there should be a way. FYI - I do not
forward the spam to the Included Outlook junk folder because i get TONS of
stuff in there that is true junk and i do not look at it.

That envelope is triggered when mail is deposited into your Inbox, which all
new mail is. Later, your rule then moves the message from the inbox to your
chosen folder. There's no way Outlook can know (at the time the
notification gets displayed) that your're going to process the message with
a rule later.

I had the same thing happen to me in Outlook 2003. The only way I found to
stop the new mail notification is to remove the 'Mark as Read' from the rule.
This causes the rule to be performed on the client (outlook) instead of on
the exchange server. Because Outlook is processing the rule, it first goes
into the inbox then moved to the spam folder. Being put into the inbox is
what triggers the new mail notification.

We run a Linux Box for our mail server - not Exchange. I guess i have to
live with it. Thanks for responses.
