RIS / BINL with Cisco DHCP Relay

J

JT

We have been happily running the RIS service for the past 6 months
without any problems. At the moment RIS is on the DHCP server.

Last night our Network team implemented DHCP Relaying on our Cisco
routers.

We are now coming up against a problem where when a client tries to
connect to RIS it gets and IP address but when it tried to connect to
the BINL service you get the error:

PXE-E55: ProxyDHCP Service did not reply to the request on port 4011

I have chatted with our network team who say they have enabled the
helper on the router and pointed it at our DHCP servers.

I presume that something is set incorectly on the Cisco router...

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hello Jonathan,

The error message that you are getting could derive from a multi-homed RIS
Server, the following conditions could make RIS a multi-homed server:

- a Dell Remote Access Board
- Remote Access Service
- multiple NICs

Also, if RIS is separate from the DHCP server and the DHCP Server service
is installed on the RIS Server, it can cause "PXE-E55: ProxyDHCP Service
did not reply to the request on port 4011"

As a test, disable any NICs or services that would allow RIS to authorize
two scopes - verify this with an "ipconfig /all"

Thank you!

Hi,

I have this problem because I have a Dell PowerEdge 2650 with Dell
OpenManage v1.5. With this dell software, I have a PPP Adapter for the Dell
Remote Access Card to work correctly in Windows 2000.

How I can solve this problem ?

When I stop the service :Remote Access Controller (RAC) Service, all work
fine from any subnet. When this service is stopped, I can't use the Dell
Remote Access Card to take the control of the Windows. When this service is
started, I can only use the ris server with computer on the same subnet of
the ris server.

My ris server is a Windows 2000 SP4, DC, DNS, DHCP and RIS.

Thanks,

Steve
