RIS Setup HELP!!!!

G

Garon

Hi I thought that i have got the RIS setup fine, no error
messages on setup, added the images fine, when i tried to
do a network boot i don't get a ip address from the dhcp
server. I have authorised the RIS server via DHCP (They
are sitting on two different servers) When i restart BINL
i get the following messages:

1.The BINL service successfully read its settings from the
directory service.

2. The BINL service is initialized and ready.

3. The BINL service has been notified by the DHCP service
that it is not authorized to run on this server. BINL
will not respond to client requests.

what the hell have i done wrong. i've also restarted the
DHCP service to see if that was the problem and still no
good...

Any help would be great!! Thanks.

In DHCP manager, you need to authorize your RIS server as a DHCP server
(even though it doesnt have DHCP installed).

Garon,

Make sure you authorize the RIS server via the DHCP snap in - make sure you
use the ip address of the RIS server rather than the name, especfially if
your RIS server is multihomed. If your RIS server is multihomed, consider
disabling the nics not in use or better yet - remove them from the system.
RIS works much better with a single nic.
