Right mouse button stopped working

Using XPpro.

I just had a tech person reformat my hard drive and reinstall XPpro
and Office 2007 (from the looks of 2007 I'm sorry I did it). I'm just
now getting everything set back up and my right mouse button isn't
working. Can anyone help?

EXAMPLES: The right mouse button seems dead and is non-responsive
when I try to right-click on the desktop. It's also non-responsive
when trying to right-click on files to perform copy/paste, etc.,
functions.

Can anyone help?

No, unfortunately, it's not the mouse. It's the Microsoft software.
I'm using the buttons on a Sony laptop and they worked perfectly
before XPpro was reinstalled and Office 2007 was installed for the
first time. Can anyone shed any helpful light on this?

OK, then try a different mouse and/or disable the touchpad & test.

Any chance a driver update was installed via Windows Update recently?

Is it possible to hear how to disable the touchpad and how to test?
We post questions here on this Microsoft Group because we're not techs
and usually don't have a clue what the tech-speak means, refers to or
where to start trying to follow helpful directions.

As for an updated driver, is it possible that an updated driver was
automatically updated when the drive was wiped clean, reformatted and
XPpro (service pack 3) was installed? The previous XP version was
service pack 2.

Contact the computer manufacturer for assistance with disabling the
touchpad.

Try rolling-back the touchpad driver per
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283657

If the laptop includes a fingerprint reader, roll-back that driver, too.

And seriously, try another mouse.

While it may look unlikely that the mouse has a problem, trying a different
mouse should still be your first trouble-shooting stop. It is a very simple
step and it avoids you having to kick yourself after spending a few hours on
chasing a non-existent Windows issue.
