Reset IE6 as default browser

Win XP Pro SP2 fully updated. No spyware. No virus

I attempted to uninstall "web accessibility toolbar" using the link on
the toolbar itself. Subsequently IE6 would not open but threw the error
dialog "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close"

This was fixed eventually by downloading and installing the latest
version of the "web accessibility toolbar"

In the interim, Foxfire was set as the default browser from
Tools>Options>General

Unable to to set IE6 as the default browser with the Tools>Internet
Options>Programs method.

I used the method in http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ie/nopromptdefault.htm
but it didn't fix the problem. While IE6 and Foxfire were available
neither was the default browser after resetting in Tools.

Moreover the address toolbar is not loading resources into either browser.

How can I fix?

Have you tried using the "Set Program Access and defaults" feature in the
Control Panel (Add/Remove Programs applet)?

Open Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs
Select "Set Program Access and defaults"
Select Custom, and choose Internet Explorer as the default browser and then
press OK.

That's it. Many thanks
