remote assistance

Hi I have been trying to get the remote assistance to work between a family
member and me. I have had no trouble with getting assitance from someone onto
my computer or me giving assistnace to someone who can invite me. However in
this particular case using the Windows XP Help and Support Invite this person
is invting me to take control and everything looks in order. She is not
getting any errors messages orany indication that the invite is not being
sent but i do not receive it. I have got her to look in My
Computer/Properties/remote to see if the box is ticked to allow invitation
and it is? Ideas please
Thanks

See if its allowed in the Windows Firewall settings, there are entries in
there to allow remote assistance, make sure they are ticked.

Hope that helps ?

HI Andy
Not having a lot of luck. The firewall has the exceptions ticked and all
looks OK. As an experiment I sent her an invitation to access my computer and
she got my mail and opened the Attachment inviting her to take control I got
the remote assistance box up with the message board in it and I could type
messages to her but she could not type messages or move my mouse even though
she could see me change screen and type messages. She could not take control
or see how she should. I have tried to get her to send me more invitations
and all looks OK at her end telling her that an invitation is open and every
thing els I see here when it is working but I don receive her email at all
even though it is in her sent box. What can be happening?

Hi Andy
Sorry I have been away i hope you get flagged somehow to show that this
question is still active.
I have mangaed now to get a message inviting me to give remote assistance
but when I try to accept this invitation after about 30 seconds I get a
failure message that tells me that Remote assistance connection could not be
established because the remote host name could not be resolved.
Can you tell me what this means and how to over come it?
Thanks
Charlie

I am having this same problem with my father's computer. He is able to send
me an invitation, but I get the same error message when I click on the
invitation. Neither of us have routers. I have tried editing the invitation
to use his real IP address (went to www.whatismyip.com on his machine to get
it), and still nothing. I have port 3389 enabled on my Norton. All his
settings for both remote and windows firewall are set properly. He does have
Norton on his computer - I forgot to see if port 3389 was enabled. Could this
be the only problem? I've been reading about being on different subnets - how
would I know. We use the same Internet Provider, I would assume we are on the
same subnet. Help please!

I am having the same problem. My Father is able to send me a remote
invitation, but I get the same error message when I try to accept his
invitation. I have even edited the invite in notepad to put in his real IP
address. His Windows firewall and his remote settings are correct. He has
Norton installed, do I need to enable port 3389 (as I have on my compter)?

I get the same error message. Everything is set up properly. Do I need to
configure Norton on his computer to allow port 3389 or is there also
something else. Everything on his computer is set properly (firewall, remote,
he has no router). I have even edited the invite in notepad to his real IP
address.

Hi, I am having this same problem connecting to my mum's computer. Does the
error message saying "Remote Assistance connection could not be established
because the remote host name could not be resolved. Please try again." mean
that it is a problem with my computers' settings or my mum's? Any idea's how
to fix this?
Thanks
