Hi all, recently ive started using WinXP manager and its worked really well until i enabled 'restart system wen computer crashes'. Now every time the computer lags - even the tiniest bit the computer restarts. Ive disabled the option but its still doing it - wot can i do - there is no help service on their site either. I am using Windows XP on Service Pack 2

I just been Googling WinXP Manager, seems to be a bit of a mixed bag of peoples opinions of it....

Anyway i take it your pc is clean? No virus' or Spyware?

What are the spec's of the pc? Tell us the following...

1) CPU, speed and type.

2) RAM, speed and how much.

3) Motherboard, Model number.

If you dont know the above try downloading and installing this, Everest Home

Same problem here

I too had the same problem until I installend and use win98SE. No virus (I suspected this). No spy/adware. The computer would reboot whenever it lagged/stalled during normal us of XPPRO. I stored the error messgae in my scone and deduced it was XP memory mishandling. causing apps to "perform" a fatal error and reboot computer. To add insult to injury, the puter would reboot when 32bit graphic mode was enabled around when the "welcome" screen came up, I am happily using win98SE, as removing all the bells and whistles and XP intrusive crap did not solve my issue

NO, you do not unless your MB will not post.

Un-install the XP Manager software and run CCleaner & Defrag ... or restore the PC to an early restore point and run CCleaner & Defrag.

UPDATE:

Ive now ran system recovery which completely formatted the hard drive whilst doing so. I have set my virtual memory to 1500MB and ran a registry mechanic (from www.pctools.com). I have also reset the BIOS as the HP site showed. The computer now responds better BUT still restarts when im playing installed games, such as TrackMania Nations. Automatic Restart is off in the system settings aswell.

Why is it still restarting?

to put it mildly

Because HP cannot build a Games machine ...

A Celeron is underpowered.
You need a min 512 RAM ... 1gig preferable.
On-board graphic cards are crap at game rendering ... and your AGP slot is underpowered too.
Messing with virtual memory is only applicable to Win98 ... and uses the "slow" HD, let Window handle it
ALL games have 'bug' fixes, have you installed them?
HP install so much junk in the background it's a wonder the dam thing works in the first place ... turn off un-needed crap.

Buy an xbox or a new "games" PC :)
