Re: Drop shadow not working for desktop icons.

Hi,

Anando has this backwards.

To regain the background shadow, you want to UNCHECK Use drop shadows for
icons labels on the desktop and have Lock web items CHECKED.

Actually, all you need to do is uncheck the first one, apply. If the above
does not help you, you must be running third party or did at one time.

Kelly,

I have "Use drop shadows for icon labels on desktop" CHECKED in the visual
effects settings and "Lock web items on desktop" UNCHECKED. This combo
provides me with the background shadow and if i check/uncheck any of the two
settings, the background shadow is lost. I have seen this behaviour on a
number of machines and not just mine.

Thanks Kelly. No dice however. I appreciate your response never the less. I
don't recall having used any third party programs that would have altered
appearance. I Think I'll solve the problem by removing the icons from the
desktop all together and putting them on a tool bar. :)

FWIW I checked "drop shadows" and don't even have "lock web items" in
the list that appears after right-clicking the desktop. The caption
background is now clear. Since I'm using an invisible icon, it's
fortunate that it only needs to be on the desktop rather than actually
clicked (a shortcut to my dialer).

Just to bring you up-to-date and for future reference. I was able to get my
drop shadows back by using the Group Policy Editor. (start>run>gpedit.msc)
Under User Configuration>Windows Settings>Administrative
Templates>Desktop>Active Desktop, changing the setting for "Enable Active
Desktop Properties" from "Enabled" to "Not Configured" fixed the problem. Go
figure. Thanks for the suggestions.

Remove shoes to E-mail.
| The only other reason for this behavior is if you have a web page set
under
| Display Properties/Desktop/Customize Desktop/Web. You might also want to

Good to see that finally it is solved. I think you followed Kelly's advice
"...don't ever give up on troubleshooting....." :)
