Colored boxes around desktop icons

All of a sudden blue boxes appeared around the icon titles on the desktop.

I have already tried checking "use drop shadows for icon labels on desktop",
and nothing is locked. I've tried changing the theme, changing icons,
removing text from the icon, nothing works.

What else can I try? This is driving me batty!

To have transparent icons, do *all* of the following:

1) Hold down the Windows key and press Pause/Break. On the "Advanced"
tab, under "Performance" click "Settings." On the "Visual Effects"
tab, make sure the box "Use drop shadows for icon labels" is checked.

2) Right-click on the Desktop, and make sure that "Arrange Icons by"
"Lock Web items" is not checked.

3) Right-click on the Desktop, and choose Properties. On the "Desktop"
tab, click "Customize Desktop," then on the "Web" tab, uncheck all
boxes.

4) Make sure any Wallpaper is an image file. Html will stop the
transparency.

I've done that, and it hasn't worked. My wallpaper image is a photo (jpeg)
from My Documents, not anything html.

Sorry, I have no other suggestions then. I've never seen a case where
doing all of those things didn't work.

Those fixes are for XP themes. To test, switch to one.

Another note: Center your picture instead of using stretch.
Notice that any icon not on the picture will view the color selected here:
Appearance/Desktop Item
Any icons placed over the picture will have a box of the same color.
