Go into BIOS and look under POST Configuration and then look at OS
Install.
Make sure it is set to OFF.

Nice catch!

The default is supposed to be Off. So either Philmom or someone else
presumably changed it to on, perhaps during the installation process.

Question: Why is this even necessary? Wouldn't the installation work in
the default Off position?

Oh, I think I just found my answer:

ON.
After almost 3 years my computer is finally performing as expected!!!

I have an XPS400. I took a guess that he had the same Bios setting, so I
checked my system first so I could tell him exactly where to go. I got
lucky!

What kills me, other than reading this thread from the beginning, is
that Philmom must be in heaven to go from 256m go 2g like this. I
don't care what pc / os he's running. Wow.

The Manual says it should be OFF but there is no explanation of it's
effect if it is ON. BTW to be lucky you have knowledge to create the
breaks! Well done. Philmom has won the Pools!
