Q308402 Hotfix

I've Googled, searched MSN and my manufacturer's website
but I can't find where to get the Q308402 Hotfix from.

I need to use the XP Recovery Console, and I'm
continually told my password is incorrect, although I'm
typing it correctly. I looked up the problem and I need
this hot fix but I can't find it anywhere!!

Any help anyone, please?

Ask the article states, you need to contact Microsoft Product Support to get
the hotfix.

Hi Greg,
A hotfix is designed to resolve a particular issue. The
reason that it is not posted on the public website is to
prevent users from downloading a file which is not
particular to their system. If you call your local
Microsoft Technical Support office in your country and
inform them that you are after a hotfix, they should be
able to provide that for you.

Thanks for your advice.

However, they seem to require some kind of payment for
this... depending on whether they feel it's necessary or
not. I've tried to use their ridiculous support wizard,
but it keeps sending me back to the same place: I'm going
in circles, until I lie and say I bought XP on it's own.

Also, I don't have a XP product code or MS Certificate -
my edition of XP is included in the laptop recovery cds.

I'm trying to get hold of them... but I'm having to lie
to do it. It's such a pain.

As the article states, you need to call Microsoft Product Support Services to
obtain it (outside the US, customers should contact their local Microsoft
subsidiary.). The support call will be be free as long as you refer to the
Knowledge Base Article number (KB308402) and ask for nothing more.

You will need to find the phone number from here:

For WinXP:

In the wizard, Select WinXP, and Basic, and then "It was purchased separately"
