Q308402 hotfix and Service Pack 2

X

Xavier

Microsoft produced hotfix Q308402 to prevent the Recovery
Console from failing to recognize the administrator's
password.

Does anybody know whether Q308402 hotfix has been included
in Windows XP Service Pack 2?

Thanks,
Xavier

Hi

As this update was included in SP1, it is included in SP2
as well...

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft
products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This
problem was first corrected in Windows XP Service Pack 1.

Thanks, but I read that before and it doesn't make sense
to me.

I have Service Pack 1 and yet I can not sign on to the
Recovery Console because it rejects my own
(administrator's) password.

I have tried many combinations, blanks and nulls included,
but they get rejected. It seems that hotfix Q308402
requires that it be applied INDIVIDUALLY to an installed
Recovery Console for it to work. Which means that (even
though I have Service Pack 1)I would have to get the
hotfix individually from MS.

Any thoughts?
