Publishing in FP2003

Guest

I have an issue that is growing in frustration. I created a site in FrontPage
2003 and was publishing it to a remote site using the FrontPage publishing.
It was working like a charm. Then I created a second site and wanted to
publish that site to a completely different remote site. When I tried to set
up the new remote site I now cannot publish to either site! I cannot publish
web site A to remote site A or web site B to remote site B. Is anyone working
with multiple sites and have run into the problem? I would really appreciate
the help.
Thanks

How did you create the second site on your local machine, as a subweb / subsite ?

No, it's a completely new site. Site "A" for example is bob.com and site "B"
is fred.com. They are both hosted by different providers, not that this
should matter though.

What kind of error are you getting?
Have you published anything to the second site at all?
Does it have FP extensions enabled?

The error that I get gives four possible causes, one of which is that server
extensions is not installed. Another is that the server may be unavailable,
etc.
I have not been able to publish to this site at all. I opened a ticket with
the hosting company and they confirmed that all was well. I have installed,
uninstalled and reinstalled server extensions.
The weird thing is pushing me towards thinking this is a FP issue is that
the first site was publishing perfectly until I created the second site. Now
I get the same error message trying to publish to that remote site.

thanks

Welp...try this...usually the host will have put up a temporary index page. Browse to it with IE, then click on Edit with FP button on your toolbar. If you are prompted for un/pw enter it, if you get in then you should be able to publish to it. If you can't open the web live with FP that way, either they don't have permissions set right or they really don't have FP extensions installed.

Whats the URL to that site anyway?

It was created in FP2003 as a new site. I chose to create a blank site and
then populated it with new files.

Ok, do you have two completely separate folders for each site on your local PC?

Example:

C:\website1, which you would open and publish to http://www.livesite1.com

C:\website2, which you would open and publish to http://www.livesite2.com

So are you open each individually and then using File Menu | Publish Site and enter the full URL of
the destination?

Yes, that is correct. I open one file at a time and make the necessary
changes. I go to the "remote web site properties" button and select the
"FrontPage or SharePoint Services" radio button. Then, in the Remote Web Site
Location text field I enter the full URL including http:// and click on the
OK button. After a little thinking FrontPage returns an error saying that it
couldn't connect. It lists four potential causes for the problem. I have
installed and reinstalled the FPSE on the server. I have had no problem
publishing the files from Site #1 for weeks. Once I created the new site in
FrontPage I can no longer publish to Site #1, and have not been able to ever
publish to site #2. Strange!

"opened a ticket" ?
Can you call them? I use a very local host and simply give them a very local
call.

Make sure you are entering the URL a http://www.yoursite.com/

Also test the sites for working FP SE by browsing to the URL in IE and using File Edit w/ FP

I have this exact same problem and it's driving me crazy. I get an error
message when I open the url in a browser and go to File/edit with FP

And what is the error message you get?
- usually if you can't open the site in FP from IE it is a server permission problem or FP SE (have your host run a repair / health
check on the FP SE)
