Problems with start-up

About one in every six to eight times or so, my computer will not boot
completely up after a night off.

It gets to the screen that says (something like) Starting Microsoft Windows,
and then just sits there and cycles without going any further.

I do a hard shut down, restart, go to safe mode, then Restore and that
almost always solves the problem.

I regularly run two different Spy Ware detection programs, an Virus
detection program, and Registry Mechanic.

I have done an analysis of my hard drive using the system tools and that
seems to be good as well.

Any ideas?

If I go to msconfig, what should the settings for the various tabs be? I
notice that on the general tab, I currently have checked 'selective startup"
instead of 'normal startup"

Could this be the problem??

Probably giving the 3rd party software that you mentioned the deep-six
would help........Otherwise,you can/could run microsoft BootVis utility that
increases boot time.
