I have a Samsung digital video camcorder and I connect it
to my PC with through the USB port but windows movie
maker 2 doesn't recognize that it is connected, other
programs will but not Movie Maker 2, all it says is "no
capture device was detected, verify the device is turned
on and connected properly" and it is! It's very
frustrating, PLEASE HELP ME

The USB port on the digital camcorder is usually there to transfer still
images (sometimes called Photo Shots) from the camcorder to the PC. USB1.1
is nowhere near fast enough to transfer video and audio without massive
frame loss.

If you have a firewire (aka iLink, aka IEEE1394) port on the camcorder, then
purchase a PCI firewire card for the PC and the correct firewire cable.

My video capture used to work fine. Then I installed
something (I suspect it was WinAmp 3 which I have since
uninstalled) and some Windows XP hotfixes and now I get
the same error as Nathan. Also, I have ArcSoft's ShowBiz
that also used to work and now does not: I Can preview
from my DV camera to ShowBiz no problem. it just won't
create a movie file properly.

To me something bad has happened to Windows XP. I tried
to reinstall Movie Maker to no avail. Is there anyway to
do a clean uninstall of Movie Maker? Does anyone have
any ideas?
