Capturing video

I am new at this video thing & trying to clear off my new Panasonice HDD
camcorder before my fist child arrives. My movie maker says "A video capture
device was not detected. Verify that a device is turned on and connected
properly, then try again."

I have tried lots of things, including checking for Microsoft Updates. What
can I do? I am running out of time! HELP!!! I know the device is fine,
because it is brand new.

Try downloading Windows Media encoder 9 series,+ its utilities.The encoder
will "capture" the video once a tv card is installed,ATI makes a descent
one for
about 60.00 (PCI),install its drivers only,no software,the encoder software
will
work better.The WMCap utility lets you simply view the video,also,once the
video is stored to a file,run it thru "convert" in the encoder.Get the
encoder at:

There is the clue, how have you connected - Firewire? USB?
Read the instruction manual.
If the unknown "Panasonice" (sic) is a hard drive model, what format
is the footage captured as, if mpeg 1/2 then movie maker cannot
see that, nor import such footage.
If it is a DV cam, if you connect by USB then that is for transfering
still images from the cams flash card.
If it has a firewire connection and the footage is DV-AVI, then connect
via firewire, turn it on, select to play and XP will see it and movie maker
will capture the footage.

Complete and utter nonsense!

The OP's problem is probably simply because the footage is of type WMM
cannot work with and the OP has failed to connect correctly and to use the
supplied software to transfer the footage..
