No sound in captured movies

I plug a Samsung camcorder into my PC through a USB port, and start up
Windows Movie Maker. I can play the video into the computer and
capture it. But all I get is the video. No audio. Any idea why
not? Thanks!

You will need to use the cable that has white, red, and yellow RCA jacks on
one end, and the other connects to your camcorder. Now connect that to a
video capture card on your PC. Of course, if you have a firewire port, then
you could use that method. But some computers don't come with them anymore
since the advent of USB 2.0

If it's a digital camcorder then you would be better off spending the money
on a firewire card, if your computer doesn't have one, and a cable as
opposed to getting an adapter of some sort. Firewire is faster and more
reliable than USB and will allow you to capture as an uncompressed DV-AVI
file for quality purposes.

Movie maker only gets the video from the USB drivers for the Samsung digital
camcorder, it tries to record the audio from the standard audio system.

The Samsung software will grab both audio and video over the usb connection,
but the files it creates aren't indexed and can't be imported to moviemaker
for some reason. (Don't ask me, I just ran into this problem today for the
first time.)

I'm going to try getting an adapter and recording the audio on line-in while
the video goes over usb, but that will be later today or tomorrow. I'll let
you know how it works out.
