Problem with repair install - need help

I'm trying to do a repair install of XP Pro, but seem to be having
problems getting it started.

I reboot to the CD and choose the repair install option (press R at the
appropriate time). I get a DOS screen asking which install I want to
repair (there is only one), so I type "1", and it asks me for the
administrator password. I type in the password (yes, it's the correct
password), and the cursor goes to a C:\WINDOWS prompt and sits there
doing nothing. Am I missing something? Any help appreciated.
