need help.........xp fail to boot

iam using Xp professional .yesterday, my system was failed to boot.an error
message displayed as follows:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.
\Windows\system32\config\system
you can attempt to repair tis file using the original setup CD-ROM .select
'r' at the first screen to start repair.

i plcaced Cdrom ,restart the system ,a msg came that press any key to boot
from cdrom..... ,i pressed a key ,windows installation setup
started files are copied ,a sceern came to ask install or repaire.there i
pressed R to repaire,a screen came with 1:c:\windows and asked to enter which
partion to logon i type 1 there , c:\windows again appeared ,i donot know
what to do here and next...........plz help me.
