Windows XP repair module problem

I need to repair my OS but when I use the repair option I'm asked to type in
an administrator password. I have not created a password for this OS so I'm
unable to use the repair module. Is there a way to get around this password
requirement? How else can I repair the OS?

I tried backing up the system to do a reinstall but that failed using NERO
back up. I do not show backup in my system tools.

The repair is needed because of many errors including system restore not
working. Another example of a problem with the OS is that the system many
times will shut down when I click the restart. I have WINDOWS XP home
edition with Service packs 2&3 installed.

normally, when you try
to access the repair console
it will ask for an admin/password.

but if there should be no
passwords you can simply
hit the enter key a couple
of times.

If your intention was to run a repair installation of XP then you hit the R
key too early. You've ended up in the Recovery Console.

If you haven't backed up any of your data files yet then you should make
that your first priority. Copy any files you don't want to lose to CD/DVD or
an external hard drive. Once you have your files backed up restart your
computer and boot from the XP installation CD. At the first screen, hit the
Enter key. Hit the F8 key to accept the license agreement. At the next
screen you'll be given the option of repairing your XP installation by
hitting the R key.

Take a look at these articles for more info on a repair installation.
