Windows XP repair problem

L

Loretta

Windows XP Home was not starting because it could not find the system in the
c:\windows\system32\config\ folder. I copied the system file from the repair
folder to the config folder. Now the repair console will not let me in
because it wants a password and the repair install will not let the install
finish because of a password mismatch. This is an HP computer 533w
I hope you can help me.
Thanks in advance
Loretta

It's a known bug with some OEM's and Sysprep. Download the set of
floppy setup boot disks and continue the repair using them. See here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308402

If you have another Windows XP computer you can mount the disk to it and
do the proceedure from that computer.

Try ignoring request for password - Recovery Console has the habit of asking
for one even though one may not have been entered.
