Problem with IKERNEL

I seem to have a little problem with INSTALLSHIELD.
Lets start from the beginning...
Computer this is happening on is a Packard Bell igo 2000 series laptop, with
XP Pro (SP2) installed.
And the software I'm trying to install, is an update to use a wireless
adaptor (Netgear WN511B).
It starts off ok, then stops towards the end (don't even close).
And the only reason I can find, relates to ikernal.exe somehow freezing (no
error codes whats so ever).
So was wonder if anyone here has come across something similar.

Any help would appreciated...

Here's a google search on ikernel.exe. The top links deal with error
messages. Good luck.

Sometimes things can appear to freeze at the end of an installation and you
just have to be patient and wait 4-5 minutes, (or even longer on a slower
machine), to allow it to fully finish whatever it's doing.

Or as a wise man once said......

"A watched ikernel never installs"

Have gone through the errors & cannot found anything which relates to this
problem, but will keep searching.

Jon
Will try to install the application again & will leave it for a good 30 mins
before stopping it myself.

Anybody else...

Well its now been over 20 mins & its still not completed it task.
With no error codes, even I can't see whats causing this.
So its back to the drawing board...

The reason I decided to write that, was mainly because "rn5577"

Right-clicking the 'setup.exe' file for the installer > Properties > Version
File Version
would tell you what version of InstallShield is being used for the
installation.

You could then follow the advice on this page to remove InstallShield *for
that version* (ie deleting the relevant folder).

http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108322

And then retry the installer.

Another possibility is to fire up 'filemon' at the end of the installation,
to see if there are any actions that are repeating themselves or anything
else that is happening filewise that might be causing the freeze.

I went through all that before I came here.
As to using File Monitor....
Yes installed it and ran it while the application was running.
The result is nothing...
After the rush of files opening, closing and the queries.
There was nothing...
The last file accessed was IKERNEL.EXE itself and after then nothing, not
one of the files was accessed (for anything).
It just hangs there doing nothing, even the setup file that started it all
is still there.
It seems that it cannot close & finish the process for some reason.

I have it on good authority that "rn5577 said:

That's possibly the point at which it expects you to add your adaptor (after
having previously removed it for the rest of the installation procedure).
