iam having a problem opening links with internet
explorer. for example i was trying to make a post on this
website with internet explorer (now using aol) and when i
clicked on the new post button a new page would try to
open then would close and nothing would open. usually i
have to right click on the link and select open in new
window and most of the time that doesnt work. the this
page cannot be displayed page comes up. so then i have to
use a my friends computer with aol on it and it works
perfectly. can anyone tell me what to do to change the
setting

I have the same problem. Tomorrow morning everything was OK and at the afternoon I realized that I could not open links in new explorer windows anymore. When I right-click a link and click "Open in New Window" a new explorer window opens but the web page is never displayed. The new window's menus and toolbar functions correctly but the client-area (the area where the web page is displayed) just freezes. It seems that the window is trying to open the web page because the explorer icon (the icon at the right side of the menu bar) continuously animates but the window never opens the page. The same problem occurs with the popup windows that are opened by web pages automatically. There is no problem with the links or pages I am trying to open because when I copy the shortcut of a link and paste it to the address bar of a window that I open directly it works correctly

I found a little workaround: When the new window opens I click the Stop button (or press Esc key) and then click Refresh button (or F5 key). When the page is opened the title of the window does not display the title of the web page but displays 'No page to display'. This works (the page opens) but it still is very annoying. So I still need help get around this. Does anyone have any idea on what might caused this problem and what should I do

Thanks
H

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:

DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.

4. If that doesn't fix it, see this article:

http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers.htm#new_window

You can also try this:

Go to Start/run, and type SFC (SFC /SCANNOW for Win2K or WinXP).
Choose 'Extract One File From Installation Disk'.
Type oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.

Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file's location, which is
probably in the Win98 folder of your installation CD-ROM (typically
D:\Win98), or in your Windows\Options\Cabs folder, as the case may be.

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System, and click OK. System
File Checker looks for the file, saves it as you requested, and then tells
you that 'the file has been successfully extracted'.

You may need to reboot.
